The goal of a education should be simple: to instill a sense of wonder in children, in order to foster a lifelong love of learning.
At the North Star Initiative, our approach is twofold. One is based on a hundred year old pedagogy that is as pertinent today as it was when it was created. Waldorf education utilizes beauty and art to create relevant intellectual, emotional and physical connections to everything a child learns.
The Montessori pedagogy utilizes a constructivist, or discovery, model, where students learn concepts from working with materials, rather than direct instruction. It provides a rich, sensorial experience where children become self-directed learners.
Our homeschool enrichment program utilizes the materials provided by Dr. Montessori to help children in their academic journey. By reinforcing concepts learned at home, or providing a sensorial approach to concepts that are difficult to grasp, we can create the perfect balance between the freedom of homeschooling, and the support of a traditional Montessori school. Waldorf music, stories and arts round out our days, setting a peaceful pace that bring a gentle breathing quality to our work.
