"Joy in living, a love for all existence - such are among the life long results of a right cultivation of the feeling for beauty and art." R. Steiner
Forest School Fridays
We've all read the articles, seen the memes, heard the stories: children need time outdoors! They need space to explore, to develop their sense of adventure and curiosity. They need to call on the magic of the Earth, and hear the Earth call back.
Our Forest School program seeks to instill a love of nature, not only in the children that participate, but in their parents and local community as well. The joy and enthusiasm they feel when learning about trees, birds or mini-beasts is quite contagious, and children make the best advocates for the things they love.
Our program is changing for the 2019-2020 school year. As our children grow, so does their need to be challenged, and we are here to meet that need. Mornings will follow the same, gentle routine: free play, Waldorf circle, snack and a nature walk. Afternoons, however, take on a new twist. We will split our class into two groups (based on skill level and maturity). One group will return from their walk to draw their findings on a nature journal, and will then move on to a leisurely lunch and free exploration. The second group will eat lunch on-the-go, making their way to the park's fire pit and delving into the wonderful world of technology. No, not technology as we know it today...no iPads or cell phones here. True technology, the kind that has helped mankind survive for millennia: knife use and safety, fire building, navigation, water purification, and so much more!
